Moral Life

This book is an introduction to the field of theological ethics with a Trinitarian perspective that guides pastors, ministry leaders, and students about how to think in a gospel way about the moral formation of persons and communities, about ethical inquiry and action, and about the tone and content of engagement in the public square.

In 1803, Thomas Jefferson copied from the four gospels such passages as he believed would best present the ethical teaching of Jesus, and arranged them according to time and subject. Accordingly, all references to miracles or events related to the supernatural were removed, and the text restructured to form a treatise on morality comparable to the Dhammapada or the Analects of Confucius.

Written in a style accessible to non-specialists, this book provides teachers, pastors, counselors, and general listeners with an ideal introduction to Christian ethics. It renews the topic of Christian ethics by showing listeners that faithful moral living is achieved through the daily practices of grace and godliness.
