禅の六祖・慧能（えのう）が懇々と教えている大事な要点は、佛というものは決して人間を超越した存在ではない、ということである。信仰者は佛を超越的存在に持ってゆきたがるが、佛というものは、自身、吾、心、衆生を離れては決して存在しない。

From a European-Western perspective, much of what is related to the state of Japan, including its history and culture and the people who live there, seems not only foreign, but also in some ways inaccessible and incomprehensible. Those who do not deal with it explicitly often have no connection to Japan at all. This, of course, is also true of Japanese mythology. In contrast to Greco-Roman or Nordic-Germanic mythology, the level of knowledge about it in the West is rather low.

Some refugees who had fled from Germany, in an attempt to escape Nazi persecution, were rounded up, interned, and later used in a prisoner exchange program between the United States and German governments. The American government also went to great lengths to secure Germans living across Latin America, who they believed posed a tangible threat, should they cross America’s southern border. In spite of a preponderance of evidence affirming the occurrence of these events, the United States government persistently denied it for decades.
