Humour Short

The British, it is often said, have a stiff upper lip and a dry sense of humour. It's true, we usually do, and in the case of this perfect compendium of short stories we absolutely do. Listen to our Scottish raconteur J. M. Barrie and English wits Jerome K. Jerome and Edward Lear for perfect proof of that. But humour is many things and from many places, so we also feature Mark Twain, our very talented American friend, to complete this rather witty and clever volume of short stories.

It was after living in Hawaii for nearly 20 years that our fortunes took a turn for the worse, much worse. So worse, in fact, that we ended up declaring bankruptcy. Unfortunately, bankruptcy is not an easy process and definitely not a quick one.

However, it didn’t take long for P. G. Wodehouse to decide he didn’t like that kind of job, and he began writing in whatever spare time he had.

The Short(Cuts) is a collection of seven unique and individual stories that range across all different genres. Sometimes humorous and other times sad, the collection represents some of the smaller works that Matthew Fish has written in the past 18 years. They range in length from 1,000-word shorts to 30,000-word pieces that have been dated to show a progress and change in both narrative style and tone.

Stan is having a lie in today. Caroline, his long-suffering wife, went to work this morning and left him with a long list of chores to complete around the house. But he'd rather stay in bed and, well, ahem, yes. It would all be just about the perfect day if a vision of Caroline didn't keep waking Stan up, disturbing his lazy idyll. Caroline has news and he needs to listen to her, for just about the first time ever. Wake up, Stan!
