What happens when the first day of school is the last day of the world? For 16-year-old Virtue, navigating 11th grade is hard enough. Throw in the mass carnage of the Purple War, the brain-mangling Lemming Plague, and the overnight, post-apocalyptic breakdown of civilization, and suddenly, arguing with her parents, being picked on by bullies, and tyrannized by her teachers doesn’t seem quite so devastating.

The 3:15 bell used to mean the end of class. Now, it means the end of everything. The Purple War is raging outside the protective walls of Aegis Academy. The infected, murderous Virulents are getting more aggressive on the inside.

Accompanied by her best friends and Beynac, her faithful golden retriever service dog, 16-year-old Virtue is about to attempt a daring escape from Aegis Academy and from its infestation of deadly, mostly naked, and occasionally cannibalistic Virulents. Of course, getting out of the academy means getting into the middle of the Purple War.
