The earnings from their last heist have dried up. Now, Ocken and Riley are once again in need of a job. Ocken doesn't dare work for the mysterious Viper again, but Riley wants to use the stranger to take down the crime lord, Edward Ziken. Except Viper is nowhere to be found. But Viper isn't the only one looking for hired hands. Soon, Ocken and Riley find themselves as pawns in yet another plot for power. 

Hope burns brightest in the night. Death follows Riley Harper like an unwelcome visitor. Yet this time, her goal is to save a life from his cold embrace rather than ushering it into the great beyond. The king's assassins have marked the governor of Havan for death, but the elusive Viper sends Ocken and Riley to kidnap her for his own machinations. As the events unfold, the pair soon discover that they aren't the only ones after the governor, and what should have been a simple job turns into a convoluted scheme with far-reaching ramifications.

Everybody makes mistakes. But rarely do those mistakes result in somebody's death. Riley Harper is trying to forgive and forget. Yet it's not as easy as it sounds when the person she's trying to forgive is herself. Ocken understands that no one can control absolutely everything that happens in life, but perhaps taking action that will help people is exactly the kind of remedy she needs.
