Months after the untimely death of mafia-made man Vinnie Garlucci, his devoted wife, Carlita, discovers a mysterious key in one of his pockets while sorting through his belongings. With help from her daughter, Mercedes, she sets off to find out what the mysterious key belongs to and soon discovers she has inherited property in historic Savannah, Georgia. Carlita views the property as a sign and remembers Vinnie's dying words to her to get their family out of the mafia.

Despite the fact that the Garlucci family was not even in Savannah at the time the victim was murdered, they can't prove it. The other members of SAS are convinced the Garlucci family murdered one of their own while Carlita is convinced that someone is trying to frame them. Can the mother / daughter duo figure out who the real killer is, or will the police dig into Carlita's past and discover that she has her own share of secrets she's trying desperately to leave behind?

Carlita and Mercedes Garlucci have settled into their new life in Savannah and are eager to get their rental units occupied as well as their other businesses up and running - but the local permit officials are dragging their feet with delay after delay.

When Mercedes decides to help move things along by organizing a protest for justice in front of the local government offices, things go from bad to worse as one by one, all of the protesters become targets of vandals.

Carlita Garlucci is thrilled that her son Tony has arrived in Savannah to help with the opening of their new pawnshop Savannah Swag. While giving her son a tour of the property, they stumble upon a hidden trapdoor that leads to an undiscovered basement with a tunnel. Curious to find out where the tunnel leads, Tony breaks through the wall and discovers underground passageways rumored to have been used by pirates to smuggle their stolen goods into the historic city.

The Garlucci family business, “Savannah Swag”, is finally open, and business is brisk. Carlita is happy with the way her son is managing the pawnshop and their new part-time employees, so she can focus on renting out their last vacant apartment. When a mysterious man shows up on her doorstep with wads of cash, offering to pay the deposit and first month's rent and even offers to sweeten the deal with some extra cash, Carlita is tempted. She quickly discovers that the man is not all he seems to be.

When Carlita Garlucci’s annoying tenant Elvira Cobb turns up missing, Carlita and her daughter spring into action and begin looking for clues to her whereabouts. They soon discover a mysterious message on Elvira’s answering machine. The message is from a man with possible NY mob ties. They fear that Elvira has put all of their lives in jeopardy after the mysterious man is found floating facedown in the Savannah River.

Carlita Garlucci is thrilled that her daughter-in-law and grandchildren have arrived in Savannah for their first visit. She secretly hopes that they will fall in love with the area and decide to move to the beautiful city, bringing her that much closer to fulfilling her late husband’s dying wish. The family is on their way and Carlita is anxiously awaiting their arrival when she receives an urgent phone call from her daughter, Mercedes, who is in the riverfront district, where she was planning to meet another author to discuss a cold case murder.
