Publisher's Summary

Abigail Sutton's beloved husband walks out one night, doesn't return, and two years later is found dead, a victim of a long ago crime. It's made her sympathetic to the missing and their families.

Starting her new life, Abigail moves to small town and buys a fixer-upper house left empty when old Edna Summers died. Once it was also home to Edna's younger sister, Emily, and her two children, Jenny and Christopher, who, people believe, drove away one night, thirty years ago, and just never came back.

But in renovating the house Abigail finds scraps of paper hidden behind baseboards and tucked beneath the porch that hint the three could have been victims of foul play.

Then she finds their graves hidden in the woods behind the house and with the help of eccentric townspeople and ex-homicide detective, Frank Lester, she discovers the three were murdered. Then she and Frank try to uncover who killed them and why...but in the process awaken the ire of the murderer.

Very Poignant

This was an engaging and interesting book. However, the subject matter is very sad and serious. I don't think I will read the next book.

Enjoyable small town mystery

An interesting, well written mystery set in a quaint small American town. Abigail Sutton moved to Spooky to start a new life after the body of her husband, who has been missing for two years, was found. Trying to earn a living as a freelance artist, she is accepted by the towns folk and forms firm friendships with the town realtor and with Frank Lester, an ex Chicago cop. Abby discovered a mystery surrounding the whereabouts of the previous occupants of her new home; secret notes, unknown lovers, violence and hints of ghosts permeate the mystery. When Frank and Abby try to solve the old mystery, things start to heat up and the whole town is caught up in the puzzle of the missing family. This audiobook is an interesting whodunit that kept you wondering who the culprit was right up to the end. The storyline was well fleshed out and the characters had depth, even the dead ones! The story of the missing children and their mother pulls at your heartstrings and you become invested in finding what happened to them. The slowly developing relationship between Frank and Abby is gentle and sweet; showing respect, friendship and patience, with hints of the potential of more in the future. The narration fit the characters well and she moved the story along at a good pace. This was a clean, and at times a suspenseful, mystery that was, enjoyable, well written and well narrated. I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review

Wonderful mystery

I loved the unveiling like peeling off layers of an onion. About the time I thought I had figured something out, another twist in the story.

Who murdered Emily, Jenny and Christopher?

The author presented a well-crafted enjoyable story. It kept my interest from the beginning until the end. There was mystery and a developing romance between Abby and Frank. What more is needed in a story? I will be listening or reading more by this author. The narrator did an excellent job of differentiating the many character voices.

Good story, a little sliw, though....

A nice story, but a little too G rated for my taste. People go missing every day. Sometimes they go on to lead fresh, new lives, but sometimes the body shows up years later.
