V roce 1939 zorganizoval Sir Nicholas Winton záchrannou akci, během které se mu podařilo zachránit 669 českých dětí z nacisty okupovaného Československa. Jedním ze zachráněných dětí byl také Benjamin Bedřich Abeles (1925 – 2020). Americký fyzik, jehož výzkum germanium-křemíkových slitin v 60. letech 20. století ve Spojených státech vedl k vývoji technologie, používané jako zdroj elektřiny pro kosmické sondy programu Voyager. Vyrůstal v Rakousku a v Československu.
