When Nani awakens in the jungles of Brazil, she has no idea who she is or how she came to the tiny missionary hospital. When she finally manages to make new friends, the entire group is whisked away to another world where they quickly find themselves under threat from the Hunters of Avoria. In order to unravel her past, Nani is forced to align with one of the young men trying to capture her. But can she trust him? Will Nani forgive him for his past, in order to regain her own?

Can they piece together enough of Nani's memories to discover who their true enemies are? What affect will the Pillar of Light have on Alexi? Should the B'nli fear the people of Bayrudaal, or seek their aid?

Nani has discovered who she really is: the sole survivor of the imperial B'nli family. Though reluctant to claim her family title, Nani must do so if she intends to restore the broken Pillars of Milana. Nani, Tai, and their friends set sail into an oceanic Province, where they soon learn that even the watery borders of Bayrudaal cannot keep out their enemies. They must travel underwater and face the creatures of the deep, but the greatest danger of all is the Pillar they seek.

As the temperature continues to drop on the world of Milana, Nani and her friends form a desperate plan to sneak into the Province of Kafar, where they hope to find the broken Pillar of Emptiness. Determined to end the cold and set things right in Kafar, Nani and her friends declare war on the Tarn. The Tarn have gone to great and terrible lengths to control Kafar, and Nani has yet to learn who her enemy truly is. Can she discover what secret has kept the Tarn in power, or will it cost the B’nli their lives?

Shattered after losing one of their own, the group prepares to search for the final Pillar in the Province of Cayos. Their plans are turned upside down when the last of the Tarn unleashes a new weapon in the Province.

Hope and hate spread across Milana as the Tarn attempt to maintain their stranglehold on the Provinces. While rebels rise up in Falia, the B'nli sneak into another Province to seal the Pillar there, but when the unthinkable happens, can the group press on in the fight against the Tarn? Can they truly trust the Breather in this war, or will one of them be Lost?
