Summonsed to the sleepy village of Hingemont, Imogen slowly unravels the secrets that led to the untimely death of her grandmother. Relationships are strained and mysteries abound as suspicion falls on some innocent and incredulous locals.

The peaceful, humdrum life of the tiny community at Little Bidwell is shaken to the core by the arrival of several and various visitors. Some have come to appreciate the respite and solitude this secluded and semi-isolated spot offers, but others have a more sinister purpose in mind.

Cameo characters people this gentle mystery, set in the imaginary town of Potterton and centered around its marina. Deaths, kidnapping, rescues and a mild romance weave in and out of the story. At the centre is Kevin, a semi-recluse boatman, whose peaceful evening is rudely interrupted when a female neighbour calls for his assistance in rescuing a drowning child.
