Boston Blackie had his birth in the imagination of a self confessed “opium eater.” Jack Boyle was a San Francisco newspaper man who became dependent upon the drug to make his deadlines, lost his job, and turned to crime to support his habit. He served several prison terms and while incarcerated in Colorado began writing a series of short stories for the American Magazine based on his experiences. Created by author Jack Boyle, Boston Blackie was a master safecracker and hardened criminal who served time in a California prison. Rehabilitated, he decided to use his knowledge of the underworld to fight crime as an amateur detective. Known as "an enemy to those who make him an enemy, friend to those who have no friend", Boston Blackie's exploits were adapted to film, radio, and television.

Blackie visits Joe Garland to pays a friend's gambling debt. Joe is murdered while Blackie is locked in an adjacent room.

John Blake seems to have committed the perfect crime. He has killed Thomas Evers, just as he told Blackie that he would. Blake also has a perfect alibi and seems to be making a fool out of Blackie! John Blake, a student of crime, has come urgently to see Blackie. He wants to know why a murderer is always caught? Blackie replies, “That’s easy because they always make a mistake.” John Blake would like to differ and informs Blackie that he is going to murder a man named Thomas Evers, he won’t tell him where or when but defies Blackie to prove it.

There's a dead body in Blackie's apartment. After Blackie is lured out with a decoy telephone call, the body disappears. Then, stolen pearls find their way into Blackie's safe! Mary and Blackie return home early from the pictures to find a corpse in the dining room. While Blackie tries to explain to Mary that he knows nothing about the body, Charlie Kingston phones to say he needs to see Blackie urgently and asks him to come to his apartment.

At a swank dinner party, the Masters' diamond disappears, and Mrs. Masters has been murdered.

A man about to expose a criminal on television is poisoned by a glass of water. Three other people, however, drank the water without ill effects! Boston Blackie and Mary Wesley seem to be settling in to watch a TV show with Inspector Faraday. As the set warms up, they see Inspector Faraday and three other men seated around a table. Mary comments that the inspector seems a little nervous as he keeps hitting the water pitcher, and so does another member of the panel. But Blackie explains it's probably very warm under all those lights.

Blackie has been asked by a famous movie making company to advise them on a few scenes of safe cracking. Mary wants him to do it, so he agrees. During one of the scenes, the leading lady is shot.

Falling for his friend's girl, he fails to reckon with an unusual roommate. The young man was tall, tanned, and impressive. There wasn’t a guest at Mrs. Parkford-Smith’s cocktail party who would deny that his presence had livened the affair considerably. The hostess especially appreciated Mr. Derek Marlow, his gentle flattery, and his absurdly amusing stories....

Arthur Burke woke up this morning in a strange office with a lump on his head, and he has no idea where he’s been for the last three weeks. Burke has read the story of the murder of George Digby in the morning paper and is afraid that he had something to do with it. Burke calls Blackie to help him find out.

Peggy Williams' pearl necklace has gone missing from her safe, and Boston Blackie was at the scene of the crime, so of course in Faraday’s book he’s the prime suspect. But the insurance company thinks it may be staged for a false insurance claim.

Shorty’s been arrested by Inspector Friday for sticking up a gas station and even though he told them it was a guy named Donald Bolton, Shorty has ended up in jail. Inspector Friday informs Mary to tell Blackie that Shorty’s guilty, and he’s to keep his nose out of this case.
