È l'estate del 1926 e la famiglia Ainsworth si è da poco trasferita dall'Inghilterra sulla suggestiva costa ligure per gestire un hotel di lusso per turisti stranieri. L'Hotel Portofino ha aperto soltanto da qualche settimana in una magnifica villa d'epoca, eppure i problemi che Bella Ainsworth deve affrontare non sono pochi: le spese da sostenere sono ingenti, il personale non è ancora al completo e gli ospiti, per lo più ricchi stranieri, hanno pretese spesso stravaganti.

À l'origine de la série Netflix Hotel Portofino. L'hôtel Portofino n'est ouvert que depuis quelques semaines, que déjà les ennuis s'accumulent pour Bella Ainsworth, sa propriétaire. Les hôtes qu'elle reçoit sont des habitués de la haute société anglaise, et sont donc exigeants et difficiles à satisfaire. Et Bella est la cible d'un politicien local corrompu, alors que l'Italie s'enfonce de plus en plus dans l'ère de Benito Mussolini.
