Storytelling is a family tradition. My grandmother was a street preacher in the 1940’s in rural Louisiana. Married to a deputy Sherriff, she experienced a religious awakening and took to the streets with a Bible and an accordion. As a young boy on the streets of New Orleans, I learned with tap-dancing teenagers with bottle caps glued to their tennis shoes earning money, bearded mystics taking song requests with acoustic guitars, painted tinmen posing as statues, and young actors staging plays.
