In 1970s, Bakersfield, California, a group of wealthy and influential men operated behind a wall of silence. They called themselves the Lords of Bakersfield. For an eleven-year-old boy named Robert Mistriel, they were untouchable and unavoidable. Sent from a boys’ home to perform odd jobs, Robert was drawn into years of systematic sexual abuse. Survival became transactional: obedience in exchange for food, shelter, money, and protection. Resistance was punished. Millions of years ago, the deadly Megalodon shark - three times larger than our modern, Great White shark - roamed our seas, killing everything and anything in its path. Convinced it was extinct, scientists agreed the seas were safe from such a massive predator - until one surfaced off the coast of California, and our safety in, or on the water was no longer such a sure thing.

In 1958, a hurricane wreaked havoc on Andros Island in the Bahamas. Not long after that, the Point-du-Lac logging camp mysteriously shut down when it turned into a diseased and ravaged place. Every attempt to repopulate the area ended in failure. In response, the EPA sends husband and wife team, James and Casey Miller. Along with a writer and a native of the island who remembers the hurricane of '58, they become stranded at the du Lac during an intense storm, and encounter bizarre phenomenon which include high pitched screaming sounds, and violent disturbances in the water.

The true horror, though, is what had been imprisoned deep beneath the stone monstrosity and is released into an unsuspecting world. Villicus Shanks, a powerful vampire during the Middle Ages, a time when vampires warred amongst themselves to feed on the few humans left alive during the plague, was imprisoned by those who feared him the most — his own kind.
