Neste clássico distópico de George Orwell, criado através de suas observações sobre regimes totalitários que assolam o mundo, Londres agora é Oceânia, o centro de um mundo onde o cidadão é parte de uma máquina, vigiado, punido e sem qualquer direito à escolha. 'Decline of the English Murder' analyses the kinds of murders depicted in popular media during Orwell's life and why society of the time was obsessed with these grizzly crimes. Tribune published it on 15th February 1946, and Secker and Warburg republished it after his death in Shooting an Elephant and Other Essays in 1952.

Nell'anno 1984 immaginato da George Orwell, il pianeta è governato da tre giganteschi supercontinenti: Oceania, Eurasia ed Estasia, perennemente in guerra tra loro. Winston Smith, il protagonista del romanzo, vive a Londra, città compresa nell'Oceania. È il Grande Fratello il potente e infallibile dittatore e capo supremo di quel continente, nessuno lo ha mai visto di persona ma i suoi giganteschi manifesti incombono su ogni strada e piazza.

L'azione si svolge in un futuro prossimo del mondo (l'anno 1984) in cui il potere si concentra in tre immensi superstati: Oceania, Eurasia ed Estasia. Al vertice del potere politico in Oceania c'è il Grande Fratello, onnisciente e infallibile, che nessuno ha visto di persona ma di cui ovunque sono visibili grandi manifesti.

Animal Farm is an allegorical satire of the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917, and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Orwell described the book as a satirical tale against Stalin and went on to say that it was the first book in which he tried “to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole”. All of the leading figures involved in this period are parodied as various animals.

In 2006 she contributed the postscript to her cousin Jacintha Buddicom's memoir about the childhood and early youth of George Orwell.
