There were ten humanoid robots somewhere in the United States, each one carrying a fragment of a TC bomb. TC! The race for sheer horror in bomb-ery had ended there. TC! Total Conversion! The sun was no longer a synonym one could use. Total conversion made the sun a penny candle.

"Youth" is a surprisingly complex short tale, with a deep core of thought-provoking reasoning. What is our motivation? Where is our growth? What do we consider valuable? Harry Seldon venait d'inventer la psychohistoire et il n'y voyait qu'une pure spéculation, sans applications pratiques. Mais dès qu'il prit la parole à ce colloque, tout le monde comprit. La psychohistoire ne pouvait pas prédire l'avenir ? Les politiques s'en moquaient ! Ce qui comptait pour eux, c'est que les gens allaient y croire. Ensuite, les équations diraient ce qu'on leur ferait dire. Et si Seldon n'était pas d'accord tant pis pour lui ! Alors, le jeune chercheur s'enfuit en compagnie d'une belle historienne, Dors Venabili.

Tout porte à croire que le légendaire berceau de l'humanité, la Terre, se trouve au cœur d'un vaste plan à l'échelle galactique, destiné à garantir en coulisse la pérennité de la civilisation : une synthèse parfaite entre le matérialisme de la Première Fondation et le mentalisme de la Seconde, mise en œuvre par une mystérieuse puissance. Their world needs help, the astronomer says; ever since the atomic wars that destroyed their old civilization, their world has been regressing.

Un clásico entre los clásicos de la ciencia ficción. Esta historia, que apareció por primera vez en 1976, fue mi exposición más clarividente del desarrollo de los robots. Può quindi rifiutarsi di obbedire agli ordini; essere un fifone sempre preoccupato di farsi male; e addirittura lottare contro i cattivi. Questo lo rende imprevedibile, buffo e... incredibilmente umano. Insieme al suo amico e proprietario, il cadetto spaziale Jeff Wells, dovrà affrontare l'odioso Ing l'Ingrato, deciso a diventare Imperatore della Terra.
