The 10th and final book in the series for adolescent girls sees two of the three cousins react to atrocities in World War I by volunteering in the Red Cross. Written under the pseudonym of Edith Van Dyne, this is the 1915 version, which reflects United States' neutrality. "The Road to Oz: In Which Is Related How Dorothy Gale of Kansas, The Shaggy Man, Button Bright, and Polychrome the Rainbow's Daughter Met on an Enchanted Road and Followed it All the Way to the Marvelous Land of Oz" is the fifth of L. Frank Baum's Land of Oz books. It was originally published on July 10, 1909 and documents Dorothy's fourth visit to Oz.

When Glinda informs Ozma, the ruler of Oz, that there is trouble brewing between two distant lands in Oz, Ozma decides to take Dorothy along with her and try to put an end to the problems. Ozma and Dorothy travel first to the land of the Flatheads, where they encounter the evil dictator Su-Dic and are forced to discover they will not be able to make Su-Dic want peace. They then move on to the land of the Skeezers, whose evil queen Coo-ee-ooh is unwilling to make peace as Su-Dic.

Along with Jack Pumpkinhead and the Saw-Horse, young Tip escapes from the wicked witch Mombi. They join forces with the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and Glinda the Good to recapture the Emerald City from General Ginjur.

Baum created a mythological world in which the magical forest of Burzee, created at the beginning of time, is the main source of all otherworldly magical power.
