Dante's Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The first part of Dante's Divine Comedy , the "Inferno" (or "Hell"), begins on the night before Good Friday in the year 1300, "halfway along our life's path". Dante is thirty-five years old, half of the biblical life expectancy of 70, lost in a dark wood, assailed by beasts he cannot evade, and unable to find the straight way to salvation. Conscious that he is ruining himself and that he is falling into a deep place where the sun is silent, Dante is at last rescued by Virgil, and the two of them begin their journey to the underworld.

Purgatory is the second part of Dante's Divine Comedy, following the Inferno, and preceding the Paradiso. The poem was written in the early 14th century. It is an allegory telling of the climb of Dante up the Mount of Purgatory, guided by the Roman poet Virgil, except for the last four cantos at which point Beatrice takes over as Dante's guide.

The Divine Comedy (Italian: Commedia, later christened "Divina" by Giovanni Boccaccio), written by Dante Alighieri between 1308 and his death in 1321, is widely considered the central epic poem of Italian literature, the last great work of literature of the Middle Ages and the first great work of the Renaissance. The spectrum of all of human life, as portrayed in the poem, will unfold with breathtaking variety, drama, thought, and beauty: In the middle of the journey of our life / I found myself in a dark wood, where the straight path was lost. The process of listening to Dante’s Comedy is a journey into not just literature but into the mysteries of human nature and its capacity for unhappiness and happiness, folly and wisdom, rejection and wonder over the miracles of creation and existence.

Dante’s conception of Purgatory involves principles of comparative awareness and the possibility of change. To course over better waters the little boat / of my imagination raises her sails, / and leaves behind her that sea so cruel. Paradiso (Italian: [paraˈdiːzo]; Italian for "Paradise" or "Heaven") is the third and final part of Dante's Divine Comedy, following the Inferno and the Purgatorio. It is an allegory telling of Dante's journey through Heaven, guided by Beatrice, who symbolises theology.

Il cammino di Dante attraverso il primo dei tre regni dipinti nella Commedia si trasforma in un viaggio sonoro accompagnato dalla voce di Massimiliano D'Aloiso che legge le magnifiche terzine del Poeta restituendole alla loro vocazione armonica. La struttura musicale della Cantica viene evocata dalla lettura concertata e senza artifici e le atmosfere via via cupe, malinconiche, romantiche ed impetuose dell'"Inferno" emergono forti e folgoranti.

"Le Rime" sono una raccolta messa insieme e ordinata da moderni editori, che riunisce il complesso della produzione lirica dantesca dalle prove giovanili a quelle dell'età matura. Le rime giovanili comprendono componimenti che riflettono le varie tendenze della lirica cortese del tempo, quella guittoniana, quella guinizzelliana e quella cavalcantiana. Tra questo gruppo di testi Dante aveva scelto quelli che dovevano entrare a far parte della "Vita Nova".

"La Divina Commedia", originalmente Commedìa, è un poema di Dante Alighieri, capolavoro del poeta fiorentino, considerata la più importante testimonianza letteraria della civiltà medievale e una delle più grandi opere della letteratura universale. È diviso in tre parti chiamate cantiche: Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso; il poeta immagina di compiervi un viaggio ultraterreno.

Dante Alighieri ist bis heute weithin bekannt als der Autor der "Göttlichen Komödie", eines der größten und einflussreichsten Werke der Literatur. Weitaus weniger bekannt sind die Werke, die er zuvor verfasst hatte. Eines davon ist "Das Neue Leben", verfasst zwischen 1292 und 1295. Vieles an diesem Werk ist außergewöhnlich. So schrieb Dante es nicht in Latein, damals der Sprache der Wissenschaft, sondern in seinem toskanischen Dialekt, dem heutigen Italienisch. Bemerkenswert ist auch die Form, in der er schrieb.

The Vita nuova is elaborately and symbolically patterned, consisting of a selection of Dante's early poems interspersed with his own prose commentary. The poems themselves tell the story of his love for Beatrice, from their first meeting at a May Day party in her father's house, through Dante's sufferings and his attempts to conceal the true object of his devotion by the use of "screen-loves", to his overwhelming grief at her death, ending with the transformative vision of her in heaven.

An epic poem is a lengthy narrative poem, usually set in a time beyond living memory in which the extraordinary ancestors, in their dealings with the gods or other superhuman forces, gave shape to the mortal universe for their descendants, the poet, and his audience in order to understand themselves as a people.

Dante's Purgatory is the second of the three cantos of the Divine Comedy, and is divided into "Antipurgatorio", "Purgatorio", and "Earthly Paradise". It consists of seven frames, in which the seven deadly sins are expiated: pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, lust. The sinners who complete purgatory move to paradise.

Dante's Paradise is the third of the three cantos of the Divine Comedy, after Hell and Purgatory. Hell and purgatory are places on Earth, but paradise is a non-material and ethereal place, divided into nine heavens.

"Delle tre cantiche, senza dubbio la più bella," ci dice Sermonti del Purgatorio, e aggiunge: "come ognuna delle altre." Qui Dante conferisce sostanza, ubicazione e regime al nebuloso regno transitorio dell'oltretomba; promette un canto verticale, che dalla voragine dell'inferno risalirà vertiginosamente i costoni del monte dell'espiazione, sulla cui cima risplende il paradiso terreste.

È un luogo comune pensare che questa ultima tratta del più famoso pellegrinaggio oltremondano sia anche la più cerebrale e tediosa. Sebbene sia difficile vincere la diffidenza degli ex alunni nei confronti del Paradiso, memori delle dottrine, della rigorosa teologia e della glorificazione di una giustizia celeste, è qui che il canto si fa più luminoso, e "l'enigma stesso di quel canto che dice e non dice, che dice di non dire quel che sta dicendo" ha prodotto pagine supreme, "rifondando la parola nel silenzio che in perpetuo la genera e in perpetuo la minaccia."

Paradiso is the third and final part of The Divine Comedy, Dante's epic poem describing man's progress from hell to salvation. In it, the author progresses through nine concentric spheres of heaven. Corresponding with medieval astronomy, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn deal with the four cardinal virtues Prudence, Fortitude, Justice, and Temperance. The remaining two spheres are the fixed stars and the Primum Mobile, containing the purely virtuous and the angels, followed by the Empyrean, or God itself.
