"Abandon hope all ye who enter here." Dante, our young, naive hero, has woken from a deep sleep to find himself in a cold, dark wood. Before he can begin to work out where he is, his path is blocked by a leopard, a lion, and a she-wolf. Things get worse from there, and our pilgrim finds himself on a journey through the very depths of hell. Why is he there, and will he ever make it out alive?

Inferno follows Dante through hell, with only an roman poet named Virgil to guide him. Dante loses his way in a forest and stumbles across Hell; but Virgil tells him that if he ventures through hell he can reach Heaven where his beloved awaits....

Durante degli Alighieri, usually referred to simply as Dante, was born in Italy, and lived from c. 1265 to c. 1321. He was a major poet during the Middle Ages. He wrote the famous Divine Comedy, which was originally called Comedìa (modern Italian: Commedia). The work was later christened Divina by Boccaccio. It is widely considered the greatest literary work composed in the Italian language and a masterpiece of world literature. In the late Middle Ages, the overwhelming majority of poetry was written in Latin, and therefore accessible only to affluent and educated audiences.

Dante's Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The first part of Dante's Divine Comedy , the "Inferno" (or "Hell"), begins on the night before Good Friday in the year 1300, "halfway along our life's path". Dante is thirty-five years old, half of the biblical life expectancy of 70, lost in a dark wood, assailed by beasts he cannot evade, and unable to find the straight way to salvation. Conscious that he is ruining himself and that he is falling into a deep place where the sun is silent, Dante is at last rescued by Virgil, and the two of them begin their journey to the underworld.

Purgatory is the second part of Dante's Divine Comedy, following the Inferno, and preceding the Paradiso. The poem was written in the early 14th century. It is an allegory telling of the climb of Dante up the Mount of Purgatory, guided by the Roman poet Virgil, except for the last four cantos at which point Beatrice takes over as Dante's guide.

The process of listening to Dante’s Comedy is a journey into not just literature but into the mysteries of human nature and its capacity for unhappiness and happiness, folly and wisdom, rejection and wonder over the miracles of creation and existence.

Inferno (Italian: [iɱˈfɛrno]; Italian for "Hell") is the first part of Italian writer Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem Divine Comedy. It is followed by Purgatorio and Paradiso. The Inferno tells the journey of Dante through Hell, guided by the ancient Roman poet Virgil. In the poem, Hell is depicted as nine concentric circles of torment located within the Earth; it is the "realm ... of those who have rejected spiritual values by yielding to bestial appetites or violence, or by perverting their human intellect to fraud or malice against their fellowmen". As an allegory, the Divine Comedy represents the journey of the soul toward God, with the Inferno describing the recognition and rejection of sin.

Il cammino di Dante attraverso il primo dei tre regni dipinti nella Commedia si trasforma in un viaggio sonoro accompagnato dalla voce di Massimiliano D'Aloiso che legge le magnifiche terzine del Poeta restituendole alla loro vocazione armonica. La struttura musicale della Cantica viene evocata dalla lettura concertata e senza artifici e le atmosfere via via cupe, malinconiche, romantiche ed impetuose dell'"Inferno" emergono forti e folgoranti.

Non si conoscono con precisione gli anni di composizione della "Vita nuova", nonostante sia stata presumibilmente allestita tra il 1292 e il 1293. Lo stesso Dante, però, ci testimonia che il testo più antico risale al 1283, quando egli aveva diciotto anni, e che il più tardo risale al giugno del 1291, anniversario della morte di Beatrice. Altri sonetti sono probabilmente assegnabili al 1293 (in ogni caso le poesie non possono essere datate oltre il 1295).

Dante's Purgatory is the second of the three cantos of the Divine Comedy, and is divided into "Antipurgatorio", "Purgatorio", and "Earthly Paradise". It consists of seven frames, in which the seven deadly sins are expiated: pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, lust. The sinners who complete purgatory move to paradise.

È un luogo comune pensare che questa ultima tratta del più famoso pellegrinaggio oltremondano sia anche la più cerebrale e tediosa. Sebbene sia difficile vincere la diffidenza degli ex alunni nei confronti del Paradiso, memori delle dottrine, della rigorosa teologia e della glorificazione di una giustizia celeste, è qui che il canto si fa più luminoso, e "l'enigma stesso di quel canto che dice e non dice, che dice di non dire quel che sta dicendo" ha prodotto pagine supreme, "rifondando la parola nel silenzio che in perpetuo la genera e in perpetuo la minaccia."

Paradiso is the third and final part of The Divine Comedy, Dante's epic poem describing man's progress from hell to salvation. In it, the author progresses through nine concentric spheres of heaven. Corresponding with medieval astronomy, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn deal with the four cardinal virtues Prudence, Fortitude, Justice, and Temperance. The remaining two spheres are the fixed stars and the Primum Mobile, containing the purely virtuous and the angels, followed by the Empyrean, or God itself.
