A mother goat leaves her seven children at home while she ventures into the forest to find food. Hansel and Gretel is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812 as part of Grimms' Fairy Tales. The story is about two siblings, Hansel and Gretel, who are abandoned in the forest by their parents after their stepmother convinces their father to leave them in the woods because of famine. On their first attempt, they are able to find their way back home using a trail of pebbles. However, they fail the second time when they used a trail of breadcrumbs because they were all eaten by animals. Hansel and Gretel encounter a gingerbread house made of candies and sweets.

A man whose hands shook with the tremors of old age could not eat neatly and often spilled his soup, so his son and daughter-in-law barred him from their table and made him eat by the stove. When he broke the fine stoneware bowl from which he had been eating, they bought him a wooden bowl that could not break.

At the beginning of the story, a queen sits sewing at an open window during a winter snowfall when she pricks her finger with her needle, causing three drops of red blood to drip onto the freshly fallen white snow on the black windowsill. Sometime later, the queen gives birth to a baby daughter whom she names Snow White, but the queen dies in childbirth.

They are very good little girls, they love each other dearly, and their mother is very fond of them. Dark-haired Red Rose is outspoken and cheerful and loves to play outside. Fair-haired Snow White is quiet and shy and prefers doing housework and reading.

A series of huntsmen disappear in a mysterious forest. It is eventually discovered that an iron-skinned man is dragging passersby into the lake where he lives. The man is captured by the king and subsequently released by a sympathetic prince, who then must flee the kingdom. The prince, with the help of the iron-skinned man, defeats an army and wins the hand of a princess. The prince is reunited with his parents, and Iron Hans is revealed to be a normal man who was under a spell and released from it by the prince who was found to be pure of heart.

A little girl walks through the woods to deliver wine and cake to her sickly grandmother. Having been warned by her mother not to stray from the path, she is tricked by a large wolf into picking flowers in a nearby field. During this time, the wolf, masquerading as Little Red Cap, swindles the grandmother into letting him in. He then devours her and dons her clothing. When Little Red Cap arrives, the wolf, whose appetite was merely whetted by the frail grandmother, makes a meal out of the young girl. Happily, a brave woodsman arrives to rescue the both of them.

Hansel and Gretel are young children whose father is a woodcutter. When a great famine settles over the land, the woodcutter's abusive second wife decides to take the children into the woods and abandon them there so that she and her husband will not starve to death, because the children eat too much.
