Brother Lawrence, also known as Nicholas Herman, was a devout French Carmelite friar of the 17th-century who’s aim in life was to simply love God with all his being and cultivate a sensitivity to the presence of God. The conversations are supposed to have been recorded by Joseph de Beaufort, who later became vicar general to the Archbishop of Paris.
