Paula es una maestra de parvulario que no puede tener hijos y junto con su marido adoptan a Daniel, un bebé pelirrojo; al cabo de unos años irrumpe la madre biológica en ese escenario idílico, rompiendo la calma que reinaba hasta entonces. A través de diferentes etapas, desde que el niño llega al hogar hasta que se hace adulto, la mirada del hijo nos adentra en personajes como la abuela, una mujer de carácter con una especial predilección por este nieto; a pesar de que con Paula ambas son un ejemplo de relaciones problemáticas entre madres e hijas.
