In this selection of some of Saki's best short stories, we enter a fictional world in which the Edwardian gently are pitched against the rude forces of nature and maiden aunts struggle unsuccessfully to contain the merciless antics of children in their charge. Saki is perhaps the ultimate master of writing complete stories in just a few pages and his sublime craftsmanship is accompanied by a wicked black humour.

The art of writing a short story can be barely noticed by a reader or listener - such is the quality with which they are usually written. It is a difficult trade, an unforgiving discipline, but for those who master it, the rewards are many. In this series of works by our greatest female writers we bring you a selection of those we consider the best. In Volume 1 we bring you the classics 'A Dill Pickle' by Katherine Mansfield, 'The Storm' by Kate Chopin, and 'The Sexton’s Hero' by Elizabeth Gaskell.

We begin with one of Hardy’s best regarded stories, 'The Fiddler of the Reels'. Here Hardy exposes a supernatural and demonic theme, against a realistic and historical background of the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the first trains. A typical Wessex girl is gripped by the power of music and dance when a lone fiddler casts his spell on her, causing her cloying but plain suitor to leave suddenly for London.

'Malachi’s Cove' tells the story of Mally Trenglos and Barry Gunliffe, who both earn their living by gathering seaweed. They are sworn enemies unit la near fatal accident seals their fate forever. Father Giles of Ballymoy is a hospitable Irish priest whose strange ways are at first misinterpreted by an English visitor.

The Clique Summer Collection is a series of five audio-novellas about the summer plans of the main characters in the Clique. Each story is told from the point of view of a different girl in the Pretty Committee: Massie, Alicia, Dylan, Kristen, and Claire. This is a collection of each audio-novella.

Sadie Smith would love to do the things that other children can, but a degenerated hip prevents her from walking. On her way to a Dr Barnardo's home, her mother buys her a pair of scarlet ribbons which bring Sadie solace in the difficult years ahead.

These three stories are amongst the finest by Katherine Mansfield, a woman highly regarded as one of the greatest writers of short stories. In these bittersweet tales, she gently reveals the emotions and feelings within the lives of apparently unexceptional people. Her stories offer a sensitive insight into human behaviour, achieved not by creating scenes of high drama, but by revealing the motives and thoughts of believable characters.

Bennett may not be the best school in the world - but it's theirs. And Barny, Spag and Clipper certainly don't want to get sent off to snobby King's Road School instead. In Swapping Recipes, a couple decide a swinging party is just what they need, and in The Third Way, a couple seduce another woman together. A Night With the Boys is spiced up for a woman when her gay friends decide they want a woman to join them, while Massage Therapy turns into a five way lesbian free for all. Finally, in Miss Adventure, a woman decides to experiment by meeting a kinky couple.

She faced death many times but lived to marry a good man and fellow survivor. Meanwhile, she concealed a photograph in her closet and carried a secret in her heart.

"Motherly Love" sees a lucky man seduce his friend's mother, after years of pining for her, and in "Sleazy Seduction" a man gets lucky on a trip to a lap-dancing club. "Bossing Me Around" sees a woman get it on with her female boss, while "Scots Mist" is a nostalgic tale of a woman finally finding her fantasy man close to her childhood home. Finally, in "The Business Trip", a woman gets exactly what she wants from a man she's intent on seducing.

Perhaps England's greatest literary family. To find one brilliant novelist in a family is extremely rare. But two? Three?

The Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily Jane and Anne, together with their brother Patrick, are famed throughout the world. And amongst their many talents was poetry. Of course, being Brontë's, they were rather good at that too.

In "Alice's Adventures in Spankland", a young woman explores her curiosity about spanking by taking a trip to a very kinky club with a couple. In "Seven Years", a couple spice up their relationship with a touch of cuckolding. In "Striptease", an accountant shows her wilder side when she takes a job as a stripper, while "The Audition" explores what happens when a woman decides to test out men to dominate her. Lastly, "The Punishment" tells the tale of a woman who suffers when she cheats on her man.

We all love animals, even if sometimes its only from afar on TV or at a zoo. But many of us have felt a closer friendship and companionship with our friends in the animal world. We talk and react to them as if they really do understand us. Perhaps they do. In this volume Hardy, Thackeray, Carroll, DH Lawrence, Emily Dickinson, and many others share their words with our ears.

In "Best of Friends", a woman finally gets it on with the friend she's wanted for years, while "Eating Out" sees a man finally giving into temptation with one of his friends. "F*ck Date" is a raw story about a man having a no-strings fling, and "Gone Skiing" shows that it's easy to bring spice into a long-term relationship if you make an effort. Finally, in "Wet", a married couple get caught in the rain and decide to keep each other warm.

On the trail of a dangerous energy field, Torchwood are led to Delhi. There they witness the simultaneous disappearance of hundreds of people, and Jack discovers that the field centres on an old colonial mansion - Torchwood India. Jack is shocked to find that Torchwood India is still going strong - he shut it down himself over 80 years ago. He's even more surprised to find that its members, including his old flame the Duchess, haven't aged a day.
