Winston Thayer III had just about everything a man could want: good looks, success, wealth, athletic talent, two talented daughters, and a beautiful, if not loving, wife. He had it all—except his health. Bob Schott had virtually nothing: a simplistic job, very little money or friends, and poor health. What Bob did have was the girl of his dreams, who was not only the love of his life but also his best friend. Between the two, they had each other, but not much else.

This is a rhythmic story about a little train engine named Mia who loved to sing. She would often sing for her friends during recess or after school. Her friends loved to hear her sing and thought she sounded cool. Sadly, there was one little engine who did not like it all. His name was Bruce, and toward Mia, mean things he would shout and call. One day after school, Bruce was extra mean. On that day, his insults had an extra sting.

The Rottweiler puppy was a gift offered to my Grandfather to replace his long-time farm dog who had died. All farms need a herding dog, a guard dog, and a loving pet, and it is rare to have all these qualities in one dog which made the loss of his dog personally tragic and devastating to the function of the farm business he owned. In upstate New York back in the 1960's, owning a Rottweiler as a pet was unheard of because of their horrible reputation of being vicious and dangerous and only good for junkyard guard dogs.
