The Rottweiler puppy was a gift offered to my Grandfather to replace his long-time farm dog who had died. All farms need a herding dog, a guard dog, and a loving pet, and it is rare to have all these qualities in one dog which made the loss of his dog personally tragic and devastating to the function of the farm business he owned. In upstate New York back in the 1960's, owning a Rottweiler as a pet was unheard of because of their horrible reputation of being vicious and dangerous and only good for junkyard guard dogs.

Freddy Wants a Family is book two of an emotional but heartwarming series about two roommates at Butterfield Orphanage. One roommate (The Tale of Two Miracles) was adopted by miraculous events leading to the finding of his deceased father's parents. This second book continues with sufficient backstory from the first book and involves a new character that adds equally miraculous events leading to a surprising future for the second roommate. The book has a great message for children adopted into a family and for children having adopted brothers and sisters.

The puppy was brought to replace our farm's guard dog, herding dog, and longtime cherished pet. Living in upstate New York, rottweilers had a bad reputation, and most people viewed them as fighting dogs or vicious guard dogs for car dealerships and junkyards, which was my Grandfather's opinion. He was worried for us three children he was raising.
