The Communist Manifesto contains the seeds of Marx's more comprehensive philosophy, which continues to inspire influential economic, political, social, and literary theories. But the Manifesto is most valuable as an historical document, one that led to the greatest political upheaveals of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and to the establishment of the Communist governments that until recently ruled half the globe.

"Manifesto of the Communist Party" is an 1848 political pamphlet by the Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle and the conflicts of capitalism and the capitalist mode of production.

The Communist Manifesto was conceived as an outline of the basic beliefs of the Communist movement. In it we find Marx and Engels' rehearsal of the idea that Capital has stolen away the work of the artisan and peasant by building up factories to produce goods cheaply. The efficiency of Capital depends, then, on the wage laborers who staff the factories and how little they will accept in order to have work. This concentrates power and money in a bourgeois class that profits from the disunity of workers (proletarians).

Originally published in 1848 as a political pamphlet, The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels would become one of the most influential works of the era. Written as a summary of the authors' political thought, the manifesto is also a reflection of the unrest and the revolutions of the time.

Passado mais de um século e meio, a atualidade e o vigor deste texto continuam reconhecidos por intelectuais das mais diversas correntes de pensamento. A Boitempo Editorial utilizou, com alguns ajustes ortográficos, a tradução feita por Álvaro Pina a partir da edição alemã de 1890, prefaciada e anotada por Engels.

First published as the 1848 revolutions erupted throughout Europe, this revolutionary political tract articulated an entirely new understanding of governments and history. The manifesto outlined a radical, new political agenda that would lead to an equal and classless society. In one of the most powerful political pamphlets ever written, Marx and Engels predicted that Europe was on the verge of revolution.

The publication in 1848 of The Communist Manifesto came at a time when industrialization was reaching its peak, and signs of the cost to the working class blatant; the Revolutions of 1848 were just getting under way. Marx and Engels shared the belief that "the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles" and this notion formed a central part of the manifesto they crafted together. They believed that industrialization was simply a new form of struggle among the classes - the price paid by the lower class still high.

It has the full text of the Manifesto as written and published in 1848, plus a brief modern commentary which can be used to demonstrate the failure of the Communist system. The original text is the classic that steered many hundreds of millions into Communist revolutions around the world. They have all failed or are in the process of failing. The ones which have not failed are slowly yielding to the reality that capitalism is the driver of innovation and prosperity.
