Douglas Adams was a passionate technology enthusiast. His best-selling The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is full of futuristic tech, and in 1990 he predicted something very like the World Wide Web in the BBC2 film Hyperland. So in 1999, he was the natural choice to present Radio 4’s The Internet: The Last 20th Century Battleground. In it, he looked at the explosion in online communication, the evolution of cyberspace, and the risks and opportunities of the new virtual world.

Pátá a závěrečná část slavné série v podání Vojty Kotka, v níž Arthur Dent hledá tiché místo v odlehlém koutě vesmíru, kde by mohl v klidu strávit zbytek života. Jeho přání se splní – dostane se na mírumilovnou planetu, na níž život plyne bez větších vzruchů a problémů. Její sympatičtí obyvatelé žijí na technické úrovni odpovídající zhruba pozemskému osmnáctému století, a tak se Arthur horlivě snaží přijít na to, které výdobytky své rodné civilizace by mohl novým spoluobčanům zprostředkovat. Ve druhé části slavné série začínající po skáze planety Země, nejprve bývalý galaktický prezident Zafod Bíblbrox, zkušený vesmírný stopař Ford Prefect, jeho pozemský kamarád Arthur Dent a dívka Trillian jen o vlásek uniknout jisté smrti z pracek tupých Vogonů. Po řadě neuvěřitelných peripetií, zahrnující setkání s absolutním vládcem vesmíru, se cesty přátel opět spojí aby se vydali na cestu časem do nejluxusnější restaurace, jaká kdy existovala či bude existovat.
