But when a fortune-telling fox from the county fair and a captive mute sea-dweller turn to Gesa for help, she can’t turn them away. Sometimes, being a creature of valor and loyalty is a pain in the ass.

Gesa and her pride have managed to survive the fae lands and take back their mate from his psychotic father. But Oisin is broken, unable to recall much of his previous life—including the reasons he fell in love with a big, brash gryphon or a young, unstable fox. Meanwhile, Hisashi’s display of power in the fae lands has only increased the growth of his dangerous, uncontrollable spirit powers. He needs an anchor. And that might mean tying himself to the family shrine for the rest of his long life.

Fiend hunter Sam “Sabertooth” Forest is used to being on the outskirts. Being a cur with a mix of shifter and human blood, Sam can’t fully shift to beast, but can’t fully pass as human. Through sheer determination, and a desire to protect the broken shifter woman who raised them, Sam has managed to eek out a place of their own in a world devastated by the rift that allowed monsters to spill into the earth plane. Sam hunts monsters, sometimes curs and mongrels just like Sam.

Just when Gesa thought her pride was complete, Halstad has vanished in the night, and the mage guild is denying any knowledge of his whereabouts. It would seem the mage doesn't want to be part of the pride...but Gesa's gryphon senses are tingling. Something smells like lies. To top it all off, the guild is refusing to sell mage contracts to anyone near Derek White. Even once Gesa finds her mage, she might not be able to keep him.

When the thing that birthed her drags Gesa back to the gryphon clan using her sister’s illness as bait, Gesa and her harem find themselves breaking out of an asylum and fleeing assassins - without really knowing who the creeps are even targeting. After all, there are so many options to choose from on the list of people who want Gesa or her lovers dead. But the trouble doesn’t stop when she leaves clan lands. Oisin’s been hiding someone, and Gesa doesn’t like unexpected visitors.

But she has other priorities. Like getting rid of the squatters in her bookstore home, keeping Hisashi from going insane...and what the hell is up with Oisin? Danger is looming, and the pride might not make it out intact.

Neither can drinking so much fairy moonshine that you forget there are good reasons not to let yourself think with your...parts. Hunting people is a whole different world than hunting supernatural beasts, and Sam and their guild might not come out on the winning side of this one.
