Stevenson va escriure LIlla del Tresor quan va veure el seu nebot dibuixar amb aquarel·les el mapa d una illa. Va començar a posar-hi noms: lIlla de lEsquelet, el Turó de la Llarga Vista, fins a escriure a la cantonada superior dreta les paraules "LIlla del Tresor".
