Audio Journeys explores the ancient ruins of a Mayan village in El Salvador. Twenty kilometers northwest of San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, is the 650-year-old village of Joya de Ceren, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in El Salvador.

What makes this site unique is that the everyday life of the Mayans was preserved when around 600 A.D. a volcano erupted spewing volcanic ashes that covered the land, caused the common people to flee their homes.

Audio Journeys is at the annual Oostende sailing ship festival on the old freight docks of this once very busy seaport.

In the seaport town of Oostende on the last weekend in May, one of the world's largest sailing-ship festivals is held. There are many ships to explore and much activity when we arrive on the docks of Oostende; announcers, marching bands, and battle-ship reenactments fill our senses. The first person we meet is a musketeer and one of the Festival's organizers.

This was a retreat for Leo, his wife, their adopted daughter, and their numerous friends from Hollywood.

In 1937 vaudeville and silver-screen actor Leo Carrillo (the Cisco Kid) purchased, and preserved over 2,000 acres of the southwest US's rolling hills. The 27 acres that remain today are known as the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Our tour of the Carrillo Ranch includes the Spanish-style home, barns, and other out buildings.

Audio Journeys explores a small patch of some of the Republic of El Salvador's last remaining rainforests. Fifty spider monkeys live in the canopy of 300-year-old trees. The spider monkeys are protected as long as they stay in this very small area, known as the Chaguantique Nature Reserve.

This important private reserve is maintained by El Salvador's ministry of Natural Resources.
