Zwei Menschen und ein Roboter durchstreifen auf der Suche nach Schiffbrüchigen das All nahe des Sonnensystems. Die Majestätische Dracht, ein von Außerirdischen erbautes und von einer KI namens Allwissen gesteuertes Raumschiff, fliegt sie mit einem Fünftel der Lichtgeschwindigkeit von System zu System. Doch dann beschleunigt das Schiff plötzlich – und anscheinend unaufhaltbar. Hat das Allwissen die Kontrolle über den Antrieb verloren? Oder verfolgt es etwa seine eigenen Pläne? Denn der neue Kurs des Raumschiffs zielt auf einen Planeten, der eigentlich noch längst nicht Ziel der menschlich-außerirdischen Crew gewesen wäre: die Erde.
