Auf der Raumstation "Orbit Challenger" wird eine Bombe entdeckt, im letzten Moment kann der gefährdete Bereich isoliert werden, aber damit ist klar geworden, dass irgendjemand vorhat, die Station zu zerstören. Der Verdacht fällt auf einen nordafrikanischen Staat, dessen Präsident Kadidi sich gegenüber den westlichen Staaten profilieren will. Kurz darauf wird ein Space Shuttle der Station entführt, schafft aber den Eintritt in die Erdatmosphäre nicht und explodiert.

Können Eric und seine Crew einen Planeten finden auf dem die Sonne scheint. Der Bordcomputer, liebevoll Daddy genannt, steht Eric mit seinem ganzen Wissen zur Seite. Die Hoffnung liegt auf einem letzten Raumsprung um einen Planeten zu erreichen, der sich zur Besiedelung eignet. Denn auf dem Raumschiff warten 250000 Keimzellen. Mit dem ganzen Wissen der Menschheit ausgestattet, wacht Eric in einem Raumschiff auf. Er war über eine lange Zeit tiefgefroren und erfährt nun zusammen mit der Biologin Bianca, dem Navigator Strabos und der Raumfahrttechnikerin Mirina den Sinn der Mission. Die Erde ist durch eine Katastrophe vor 2 Millionen Jahren zerstört worden und die 4 sollen auf Andromeda eine neue Heimat finden. Überraschend kommt ein Abgesandter einer fremden, freundlich gesinnten Lebensform an Bord. Andoro gibt sich als Andromedaner zu erkennen und leistet wertvolle Hilfe.

Das Raumschiff Galaxis befindet sich am Rande des Andromedanebels.
