The easiest way to learn about Islam is through the traditions of Mohammed called the Hadith. The Koran repeatedly commands every Muslim to follow the perfect example of Mohammed’s life, his words and deeds, referred to as the Sunna. The Sunna includes the Hadith (Mohammed’s traditions) and the Sira (Mohammed’s biography). Since there is not enough information in the Koran for Muslims to practice Islam and understand the doctrine, the easiest way to learn about it is from Mohammed’s traditions. فى هذا الكتاب مقارنة بين تعاليم الإسلام كما وصلت إلينا، وبين أصدق ما وصلت إليه حضارة الغرب فى أدب النفس والسلوك فى محاولة للكشف عن روعة التقارب وصدق التطابق» .. هذه بعض كلمات المؤلف التى عبر بها عن سبب كتابته لهذا العمل الفريد، خاصة بعد قراءته لكتاب «دع القلق وابدأ الحياة» لديل كارنيجى وقد اعتمد فى هذا العمل على جانبين رئيسين: فهو يعرض نصوص وأحكام الإسلام ويقابل بها كتابات وتجارب وشواهد كارنيجى .. تأكيدًا لقيمة الإسلام ومنهجه فى التعامل مع النفس البشرية فمن القلق إلى الثبات إلى العمل إلى مشكلات الفراغ إلى محاسبة النفس وغيرها حيث تتنوع موضوعات هذا الكتاب تنوعًا ممتعًا.

إن أولى النهى أجمعوا على أن الحضارة الحديثة تربط الإنسان بالأرض وتقطعه عن السماء، وتعلق قلبه بمآرب الدنيا وتذهله عن مطالب الآخرة وتعمل على سوق البشر بعيداً عن الله: ونحن المسلمين أغنى الناس بمواد البناء فى هذا المجال، وفى تراثنا ما يكفى ويشفى إذا أحسنا الإدراك والإفادة، وفى هذا الكتاب إحياء لجانب مهم من مواريثنا العلمية الثمينة، تتجهم له الحياة المعاصرة، ولكنها سوف تحرم بركات الأرض الأرض والسماء إذا خاصمته ومضت إلى غايتها الأرضية بعيدة عنه (ألا وهو التصوف أو الجانب العاطفى من الإسلام).

يبدأ الكاتب هذا العمل بمقولة مؤثرة تقول: «لا أدرى لماذا يخالطنى شعور بأننى أعيش فى القرن السابع أيام سقوط بغداد ووفاة الدولة العباسية، أو بعد ذلك بقرنين أيام سقوط غرناطة واختفاء الإسلام من الأندلس؟!» بهذه الكلمات يعرض الكاتب لهموم الداعية الكبير خاصة فى مجال الثقافة الإسلامية التى تحتاج إلى تنقية شاملة، وأن الدعاة فى حاجة لإعادة غربلة الموروث الثقافى الذى يحتضن البدع والخرافات وما وفد به الاستعمار الثقافى للحضارة المنتصرة .. إنها محاولة لرصد أخطائنا لتنقية أفكارنا حتى تنمو الدعوة على أسس الإسلام الحنيف.
