"De la vie heureuse" est un traité de sagesse, intemporel et universel. Il a été écrit par Sénèque comme un dialogue avec un interlocuteur imaginaire, vers 58 après Jésus Christ. L'œuvre est dédiée à Gallion, frère aîné de Sénèque. Son principal objet est de montrer que le bonheur n'est pas matériel, mais naît d'une vie en accord avec la vertu et la raison (selon les préceptes du stoïcisme).

Socrate est un philosophe de la Grèce antique (-470 à -399), considéré comme l'un des inventeurs de la philosophie morale et politique. Il n'a cependant laissé aucune œuvre écrite ; sa philosophie s'est transmise par l'intermédiaire de témoignages indirects (en particulier par les écrits de ses disciples Platon et Xénophon).

Socrate est souvent qualifié de "père de la philosophie". S'il n'en est peut-être pas le fondateur, il est le premier à se détourner de l'étude de la nature et à insister pour que la réflexion philosophique s'intéresse désormais, et exclusivement, aux "affaires humaines". En raison de cette stature, et du fait qu'il n'ait jamais laissé d'écrit, on a longtemps cherché dans les œuvres de Platon, de Xénophon, d'Aristophane ou encore d'Aristote, la trace du vrai Socrate, du Socrate historique.

Fils d'une famille de l'aristocratie athénienne, Platon semblait être destiné à occuper des responsabilités politiques de tout premier ordre. Mais sa rencontre avec Socrate bouleverse ces plans. À la mort du maître, il se consacre, via l'écriture et l'Académie qu'il fonde en 387, à la transmission de la pensée novatrice de Socrate.

De ce que l'homme n'a pas d'autre choix que d'être "artisan de sa propre vie" pour tendre à la "tranquillité de l'âme", Sénèque déduit une morale très humaine.

The Treasure was originally taken from the Second Temple in 69 AD, just before the Romans sacked Jerusalem and the Temple. The Treasure was split up and hidden in 64 different places in and around Jerusalem. Those locations were documented on the Copper Scroll found with the Dead Sea Scrolls. The first of these scrolls were found by Bedouins in caves at Qumran in 1947. The Copper Scroll was later found in cave number 3 by professionals in 1952.
