Erschreckend nah heulen des Nachts die ausgehungerten Wölfe und reißen die ersten Schafe. Dann fällt ihnen in dem Dörfchen Würi, gleich vor der Stadt, der junge Müllerssohn Jörgelin zum Opfer. Zum Schock gesellen sich Spukgeschichten über Werwölfe. Man hängt zur Abschreckung sogar einen Wolf an den Galgen. Das Töten geht weiter.

Die beliebte, charmant-energische ehemalige Begine Serafina ermittelt in ihrem fünften Fall in Freiburg. Die Erfolgsautorin Fritz nimmt einen historischen Fall als Grundlage für den spannenden, atmosphärischen Roman. Im Mai 1417 liegt in der düsteren Henkersgasse eine junge Frau mit eingeschlagenem Schädel, das Gesicht mit einem falschen Muttermal am Kinn seltsam geschminkt.
