A scientist by profession but a poet at heart, Gauhar Raza is one of India’s leading Urdu poets of this age. He is also a social activist and a documentary filmmaker. Gauhar Raza's poetry has been known for frankness of tone and for the social concerns that they take up and treat sensitively. Khamoshi is a selection of his poetry including his famous poem Main Chahta hoon, in which he express his helplessness to write a romantic poem in the days of darkness.

春琴は大阪道修町の薬種商を営む富裕な家の次女として文政12年5月24日に生まれた。容姿端麗な春琴は4歳の頃から舞を習い、その姿は優艶で舞妓も及ばぬほどであった。また、早くから読み書きの道を学び、上達が早く二人の兄を凌駕した。
しかし、春琴が9歳の時、両眼の明を失い、これを機に舞技を断念し、専ら三味線の稽古に励んだ。 春琴は琴の師匠である春松検校の家へ丁稚に手をひかれて稽古に通った。 その丁稚の名は佐助といい、春琴より4つ歳上で13歳の時に始めて奉公に上った。 春琴に忠実である佐助は春琴の稽古の付き添いをするうちに、彼女の好むものを好むようになり、密かに三味線を購入した。
そして寝静まった頃、誰にも気が付かれないように押入れで練習するが、やがて発覚する。 一番番頭に呼びつけられ大眼玉をくらったが、春琴が「聴いてみたい」と言ったことで皆の前で披露することとなった。 短時間の独学にしてはかんどころも確かで、節回しも出来きていて皆は感心した。それから、春琴は佐助に稽古をすることとなり、春琴と佐助は主従の上にさらに師弟関係となった。春琴の稽古は厳しく、撥をもって頭を殴り佐助がシクシク泣き出すことも珍しくなかった。 春琴の稽古時の粗暴な振舞を案じた春琴の両親は佐助を春松検校の門に入れさせ、春琴が直接教授することを封じてしまったのである。...
