芥川の作品には珍しく、自身の体験をそのまま物語にした中期の作品です。短い物語の中に数多く出てくる「象徴」と「色彩」が見事に描かれています。耳で聴くと、「この作品は五感で味わう作品」

河に浮かぶ死体を嘲笑して見物する群衆を描いた小品。死者への冒涜を怒りながら、衆愚と無縁でない己の内面を冷静にとらえている。いわゆる「啓吉もの」のひとつ。啓吉は菊池寛の分身だ。

山本周五郎の短編の魅力はストーリー転換の妙にあります。読者や聴き手に結末を想像させておいて見事にひっくり返す。それで終わりと思いきや、もう一度転換する。その手法がたっぷり味わえる作品。

主人公である良秀の「芸術の完成のためにはいかなる犠牲も厭わない」姿勢が、芥川自身の芸術至上主義と絡めて論じられますが、そんな難しい事は考えず、純粋に楽しんで欲しい作品。

菊池寛初期の短編小説。京都大学時代の経験も交えて書かれた面白い小説です。エゴイズムに対する辛辣な皮肉も込められた作品でもあります。 京都の疎水の描写も興味深い作品です。

A Jinbōchō, Tōkyō, il quartiere delle librerie, si trova anche la libreria Morisaki, che appartiene alla famiglia da tre generazioni. Satorue che la gestisce, è l'opposto di sua nipote Takako, che non esce di casa da quando l'uomo di cui era innamorata le ha annunciato che sposerà un'altra. Ed è proprio lui, l'eccentrico zio, a lanciarle un'imprevista ancora di salvezza proponendole di trasferirsi al piano di sopra della libreria in cambio di qualche ora di lavoro.

日本では「女の一生」で有名なモーパッサンだが、実はフランス文学短編の名手としても知られている。ここに収められた作品はいずれも15分から30分程度という、聴いても読んでも手ごろな作品ばかりである。

いろいろな意味で、ちょっと切ない作品かと思います。時代は昭和。戦後の生き方を誰もが見いだせない中を健気に、しかし強く生きていく「妻」。

「Ｄ坂の殺人事件」「心理試験」に続く、明智小五郎シリーズの三作目。暗号を解読して事件を解決していく、という手法を採用したが、乱歩にとってはまだまだ不満の残る作品だったらしい。
