„Der Brief, den du geschrieben, er macht mich gar nicht bang; du willst mich nicht mehr lieben, aber Dein Brief ist lang. Zwölf Seiten, eng und zierlich! Ein kleines Manuskript! Man schreibt nicht so ausführlich, wenn man den Abschied gibt.” Heinrich Heine, 1797 in Düsseldorf geboren, gest. 1856 in Paris, wo er seit 1831 lebte; einer der Hauptvertreter des Jungen Deutschland. In spätromantischen Gedichten verbindet er Empfindungsreichtum mit Skepsis und Ironie („Buch der Lieder“ 1827; „Romanzero“ 1851). Seit einiger Zeit sträubt sich etwas in mir gegen alle gebundene Rede, und wie ich höre, regt sich bei manchen Zeitgenossen eine ähnliche Abneigung.
