2. Teil. Im Zug von Prag nach Budweis betätigt Schwejk die Notbremse. In Tábor versäumt er den Zug, vertrinkt sein Fahrgeld und muss daher zu Fuß nach Budweis laufen. Auf diesem Fußmarsch, "Schwejks Budweiser Anabasis", gelangt er nach einigen Abenteuern nach Putim, wo er von einem Wachtmeister für einen Spion gehalten wird. Von einem schwer betrunkenen Postenführer wird Schwejk beim Rittmeister in Písek abgeliefert, der ihn zu seinem Regiment nach Budweis zurückschickt.

The First World War has left the world in agony. Disillusionment, hopelessness, and horror are rife when a despondent author gets a visit by Father Time and Father Christmas, who come to raise his spirits. He wishes for better days, but the war has taken everything, turning him into a hopeless and angry nihilist. Nevertheless, the Christmas spirit is here to bring hope and another chance at happiness.

"All the World" (1919) takes place in the aftermath of the Great War. The soldiers are back but they are struggling to settle down again, and so are the women who worked so hard during the war as well. One Sunday, after Dr. Ward’s sermon, something happens that will turn the life in his town upside down.

Lenin's journey in a sealed train took place in April 1917 during the First World War. The journey took Vladimir Ilyich Lenin together with other emigrants from Swiss exile through the German Reich via Scandinavia to Petrograd, today's Saint Petersburg. The "sealed train" was only used on the German part of the route. Lenin's arrival in Russia led to the 1917 revolution and the peace treaty between Russia and Germany in March 1918.
