Weenie und ihre Freunde Bolle und Jo besuchen an Halloween eine Kirmes, wo sie als erstes natürlich die Geisterbahn ausprobieren. Mit enttäuschendem Ergebnis, denn die Fahrt ist total langweilig. Der seltsame Geisterbahnbesitzer schenkt ihnen als Ersatz ein richtig gruseliges Erlebnis, nämlich eine Fahrt durchs Geistergrusel-Land. Die ist aber nichts für Angsthasen, betont er. Weenie und ihre Freunde riskieren es und erleben nicht nur haarsträubende Abenteuer, sondern sie müssen zudem einem Geist aus der Patsche helfen.

Freddy erhält einen geheimnisvollen Brief, in dem ihm ein Internatsplatz im ehrwürdigen Institut Blauzahn angeboten wird. Was er und seine schrullige Tante Liz nicht wissen: In den alten Gemäuern werden eigentlich nur magische Wesen wie Gespenster, Vampirkinder, Irrlichter und Waldgeister unterrichtet.
