Since it first appeared in 1913, Pollyanna has become an enduring favorite with children. The tale of an orphan who maintains a strongly positive view of the world despite adversity has a strong affect on listeners of all ages, even in the 21st century - and especially when read with such warmth by Laura Lefkow.

The evergreen tale of the Swiss orphan girl Heidi has charmed and intrigued readers since its original publication in 1880. Heidi comes to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps where she befriends the animals and children, in particular the goatherd Peter. She is later taken away to the stern and confining home of the invalid Clara where she enriches the lives of those around her but longs to return home. After many adventures she returns to her grandfather's cabin in her beloved Alps.

The first volume of David Timson's series retelling of the stories from Shakespeare's plays was widely praised by newspaper and educators alike. Here is volume 2, with more key plays. Shortly thereafter, the brothers incorporated 70 more stories in their next volume of Grimms' Fairy Tales. This continued for six more editions! The complete collection contains over 200 stories, and is probably the best-known work of German literature.

And after encountering a group of cannibals, Robinson Crusoe finally finds a companion.
