The nuclear exchange that ripped apart the world destroyed a way of life thousands of years in the making. Carving out a living in the Deathlands is no easy feat. To most, the only thing that matters is one more day spent above ground. To the man known as Trader, the only thing that matters is the bottom line. In a mutie-filled, irradiated wasteland, Trader and crew set out to find the scavvie Marsh Folsom. Stories going around say that Folsom has knowledge of an underground cache with a legendary bounty.

The companions have returned from their time jump back to the year 2001 on a mission to put an end to the malevolent cyborg known as Magus. Despite having narrowly survived that harrowing adventure, Ryan Cawdor’s intrepid team is not about to give up. They renew their pursuit of the augmented madman. But there are disturbing indications that the Deathlands to which they’ve returned may not be the one they remember.

The Earth is laid waste by a devastating blight that destroys the world's food supply. Mass starvation wipes out millions almost overnight. Society collapses, and those who survive must contend with renegade groups striving for naked power. A new currency comes into existence - precious food and the force of arms that helps get it at any cost.   

Resources are scarce in the Deathlands, but the mega-cemetery of Oregon holds the treasures and trinkets of three million corpses killed in the nukecaust. Stumbling into warring parties of graverobbers, Ryan Cawdor and his companions fall in with an old ally of J.B. Dix who offers an attractive promise of unlimited ammunition for their services. But the graves hold other secrets that could spell the annihilation of the human race unless their excavation is halted.

Desperate to find water and shelter on the barren plains of former Oklahoma, Ryan and his team come upon a community that appears, at first, to be peaceful. Then the ville is attacked by a group of its own inhabitants — people infected with a parasite that has turned them into slave warriors for an unknown overlord. The companions try to help fend off the enemy and protect the remaining population, but when Ryan is captured during a second ambush, all hope seems lost. Especially when he launches an assault against his own crew.

Eight Generations after the atomic mega-cull, a shattered world still struggles to heal itself. The iron-fisted rule of the nine baronies is compromised by an intrepid group of warriors who have uncovered secrets as dark as they are damning. For nothing in the history of humankind is what it seems. Reality is obscured by the grim impermanence of power...and deceit. All that remains is the human spirit's enduring will to survive.

When an act of mercy ends in betrayal, the companions are attacked, and three of their crew abducted. Led by Ryan, the remaining members set out on a deadly rescue mission. Standing in their way—a forest overrun by barbaric cultists and mutated beasts. Alien animals hide behind every tree. Strange creatures creep through the canopy. Accompanied by scientist Eden Long, the companions endeavor to cross the dangerous territory of Baltimorgue to help their ally Doc Tanner to time jump home. However, they soon find themselves fending for their lives against the dangerous groups who inhabit the old city, each one set in brutal opposition to the others. When the companions get split up, they each become mired in the myriad of insanities that vie for survival in a city gone beyond the edge of reason.

Caught in the vice of the mountains, J.B. and Mildred are ripped from their friends by snowmobile-riding bandits that worship violence, velocity, and their black-horned Baron. Ryan tries to mount a rescue, but against raging blizzards, drug-fueled barbarians and a fracture in his own ranks, progress is frozen in its tracks.

The Deathlands companions have been cast asunder through time. But fortune smiles on one of their number, the time-trawled Doc Tanner, who finally finds himself back in his own era of the 1890s accompanied by Mildred Wyeth, an African-American woman from the twentieth century whose skin color makes her stand out for all the wrong reasons. This could be Doc’s chance to repair the mess his abrupt disappearance through time left, if he and Mildred can survive long enough to reach his family.

The world blew out in 2001. Vast areas of what was the United States lie beneath an unbrella of noxious dust and radioactive debris, a mantle of destruction drawn over a land of doom. Much of the East Coast has been oliterated; the Southwest is a land of fire; cities of smoldering ash have give birth to horrifically mutated life forms. Such is the Deathlands, legacy of global annihiliation.

Still working on securing the partnership with Grace Milligan for her fuel refinery while in Fairzie, Trader and Marsh cross paths with a scouting party that has followed stories about a fuel source. That’s only the tip of the spear. That scouting party has been sent by Ironhand Jackson, the boss of El Dorado. In El Dorado, Ant, a woman who works as an enforcer for Hoyt Lynch, the self-made lord of Boardwalk, arrives to kill Jackson. Lynch has learned of the fuel refinery’s existence and desperately needs it because his own fuel reserves are running out.

Ryan Cawdor and his band of post-holocaust survivors come face-to-face with a specter from the past: out of the swirling dust that was once New Mexico bursts a regiment of pony soldiers, led by a man with flowing yellow hair. Brandishing Colts and Winchesters, the horsemen grimly prepare to destroy the ragtag strangers, intruders who dare to penetrate their ruthlessly defended stronghold.

When a mat-trans malfunction strands Ryan Cawdor and his friends in a gutted redoubt in the West Indies, the crystal waters offer them a tantalizing glimpse of untouched splendor. But the oasis is abruptly shattered by violent and ruthless pirates, and Ryan has to barter with a young guide, a teenage boy on a blood quest against a sadistic local warlord, to navigate a land teeming with predators-mutie, human and animal. The race is on to find a second redoubt, buried deep in the inhospitable heart of Monster Island.
