The story of a gang of four young boys, Pádraig, Fintan, Donnacha and Séan who grew up in the early 1900's. Their gang, 'The Fruit Kings', was formed in their early childhood and they were rarely seen in the town without at least two gang members strolling the paths. As they reached their teenage years, the Irish town they grew up in saw significant change, which would also change their young lives forever. Ireland was part of the United Kingdom during the First World War. The war period was marked by significant political and social changes, including the rising tide of Irish nationalism.

London 2023. DCI Andy Martins receives information of a murder in rural Ireland. Confused as to why this information has been sent to him, he soon discovers the murder has the hallmarks of a serial killer he arrested over eighteen years ago.

King Cymbeline of Britain banishes his daughter Imogen's husband, who then makes a bet on Imogen's fidelity. Imogen is accused of being unfaithful, runs away and becomes a page for the Roman army as it invades Britain. In the end, Imogen clears her name, discovers her long-lost brothers and reunites with her husband while Cymbeline makes peace with Rome.
