Le Grand Meaulnes is one of the great classics of French literature, a mysterious, even impressionistic tale of adolescence in the French countryside in the dying years of the 19th century. Der Ich-Erzähler ist der jüngere Freund der Hauptfigur Augustin Meaulnes (gesprochen "Mon"). Er berichtet über dessen Schulzeit, Abenteuer und die unerfüllte Liebe zu der schönen und zerbrechlichen Adeligen Yvonne de Galais.
