After reading chivalric romances, Don Quixote becomes infatuated with the idea of being a heroic knight and with the help of his squire sets out to do exactly that. Although Sancho’s adventures continually get him into trouble, he grows and learns from those mishaps, becoming a character that will enchant the listener long after the last words.

Don Quixote is an early novel written by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Cervantes created a fictional origin for the story in the character of the Morisco historian, Cide Hamete Benengeli, whom he claims to have hired to translate the story from an Arabic manuscript he found in Toledo's bedraggled old Jewish quarter.The protagonist, Alonso Quixano, is a minor landowner who has read so many stories of chivalry that he descends into fantasy and becomes convinced he is a knight errant. Literature's famous gentleman, Don Quixote of La Mancha, his trusty squire Sancho Panza, and their adventures and mishaps, are told in this centuries-old classic, which features challenges with windmill monsters, castles masquerading as inns, as well as innkeepers, prostitutes, goat herders, soldiers, priests, escaped convicts, and scorned lovers. Don Quixote must do battle with all of these for the sake of chivalry and knighthood - at least, that is what he believes.

Don Quixote is widely considered to be the first modern novel. As a classic of Western literature, it is regarded by scholars worldwide to be one of the best works of fiction ever written and a magnificent product of the Spanish golden age of literature. Alonso Quixano, a retired country gentleman in his fifties, lives in an unnamed section of La Mancha with his niece and a housekeeper. He has become obsessed with books of chivalry, and believes their every word to be true, despite the fact that many of the events in them are clearly impossible. NBC University Theater initially started in Chicago with a remit to bring adaptations of classic novels, usually Anglo-American, to a radio audience. In its later years, it also included short stories and plays and went on to win the distinguished Peabody award. University Theater relied on excellent distillations of the novels and first-class acting alongside high production values.

In volume two, we encounter the further adventures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, but without the long, rambling diversions contained in the earlier volume. Each chapter in part two is focused solely on the meandering travels of the famous pair as they make their way through one ridiculous situation after another.
