In another Classic Review episode, we took a turn down the world of electronic music in our review of Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. This timeless, and very accessible, album deviates from the duo’s typical pattern of relying on sampling music from the 70s and 80s to achieve their sound. Instead, they opted to bring in some of the most influential musicians of that era and put them in a room with contemporary musicians and let the music flow, which Daft Punk then sampled to create this masterpiece that would be their final album. LIVE ALBUM REACTION: God Does Like Ugly by JID. We are both huge JID fans, so when he announced he would be dropping a new album three years after an amazing album in The Forever Story, we knew we had to do a live reaction. God Does Like Ugly is JID’s highly anticipated fourth studio album looking to solidify him as one of the most talented rappers in this new age of hip hop.

Nearly twenty years after their debut classic, Is This It, The Strokes have come back with one of their best bodies of work in The New Abnormal. With the help of legendary music producer, Rick Rubin, and led by lead singer, Julian Casablancas, The Stokes managed to again tap into what made them one of the greatest Rock bands of the 2000s. In our first “Classic Album Review” episode, we chose to review an album that we both love and is widely considered one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Eminem was one of the first artists that introduced us to the genre and is one of the most influential artists of our generation. The Marshall Mathers LP picks up where Slim Shady LP left off with vivid descriptions of what goes on inside the mind of Eminem’s “Slim Shady” character and blurs the lines of his identity between the two. The combination of Em’s genius wordplay, story telling, humor, and production makes this one of the most captivating albums that feels more like watching a horror movie than it does simply listening to music.
