  • Ep 516: Lone Star Lotto Legal Storm: Controversies Are Bigger In Texas
    May 15 2025

SBC Media's Editor-at-large Ted Menmuir is in the host's chair for today's episode of iGaming Daily, sponsored by Optimove, and he's joined by his namesake Ted Orme-Claye, and SBC Americas Senior Journalist Tom Nightingale.

With SBC Summit Americas in full swing, our team are still keeping you fully up to date with everything going on in the US industry, and today, we have a fascinating story from Texas to bring you up to speed on. Our panel's discussion centres on the Texas Lottery and the ongoing controversy surrounding third-party courier services. With a bill proposed to abolish the state lottery, and political scrutiny intensifying after the commission banned courier services following another disputed large prize, questions have been raised about the integrity of the Texas lottery system.

The guys chat about the controversy, the two large jackpot wins that have drawn the scrutiny, Senator Bob Hall, who is leading the legislative efforts in response to these issues, allegations of corruption dating back to the late 1990s, the ban on lottery couriers, how this debate stretches to other states, and the uniquely political nature of lottery in the United States.

  • Ep 515: Four Continents, One Podcast: Denmark To The DCMS & Thailand To The Tropics
    May 14 2025

Ted Orme-Claye takes over the hosting role for today's iGaming Daily, sponsored by Optimove, as Ted, Joe Streeter and Viktor Kayed continue their world tour from the comfort of our Manchester studio.

First up, they discuss some interesting numbers from Denmark, who after strong growth in March of 2025, now rank fifth globally in terms of regulated online gambling market share. Our panel chat about the Nordic approach to the black market, and what other markets could learn from their ability to shift players back to regulated operations.

Onto the UK, where rumours are abound that Keir Starmer plans to dissolve the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, something that would be a significant change for the UK industry. The guys chat about where the industry might go, where political responsibility might lie, and whether this could lead to confusing and convoluted fragmentation.

The penultimate destination on today's tour is Thailand, where they discuss the ongoing casino legislation, a story with multiple moving parts. Ted, Joe and Vik bring you up to date with the story, including committee-ception as the Senate Special Committee establish two new sub-committees, the significant due diligence involved, and the added dynamic of Chinese interest in the story, with concerns it may impact Macau's status as the home of Asian gambling.

Lastly, we head to Botswana, following this week's SBC News story highlighting the African nation as the potential new boom market on the continent. Recently, ten new licenses were handed out, including one to Betway. Botswana is considered to be a gateway market to the wider region, and the guys also touch on South Africa who have recently introduced a National Gambling Policy Council.

  • Ep 514: Labour's Looming Levy Gamble: Are We Really Having A Review Of The Review?
    May 13 2025

Joe Streeter returns to the host's chair for today's episode of iGaming Daily, sponsored by Optimove, and he's joined by the SBC News team of Senior Journalist Viktor Kayed, and Editor Ted Orme-CLaye for a discussion on an ever-juicy topic, UK regulation.

The guys discuss the recent letter from a UK parliamentary select committee to the Labour government, expressing concerns that the current Gambling Act review and its reforms have not adequately addressed gambling-related harms and advertising saturation. With demand for a revisit of the review, and concerns over the implementation of the RET Levy, are we set for a review of the review?

Our panel discuss the select committee's letter, the reason for the demand, the increased pressure on Labour and Keir Starmer, the advertising and sponsorships question that just won't go away, gambling as a public health issue, the RET Levy and it's future, and what the potential abolition of NHS England means for everything.
