About this listen

You Bet! Pod is a fortnightly deep dive into one of the most gloriously bonkers game shows of 90s British television: You Bet!

Each episode, we randomly select a show from the You Bet! archives and relive the madness — dissecting the challenges, marvelling at the challengers, and revisiting the celebrity guests brave (or foolish) enough to take part.

Along the way, we celebrate the ever-changing line-up of hosts — from the irrepressible Bruce Forsyth to Darren Day and Matthew Kelly — and explore what made the show such a Saturday-night staple. Packed with 90's nostalgia and plenty of laughs, You Bet! Pod is the ultimate throwback for anyone who grew up in the 1900's.

You Bet! Pod is the perfect podcast for those of you who still have a fondness for the 1990's and a love of Matthew Kelly's incredible hair.

  • Episode 16: Darren Day, Ant McPartlin, Declan Donnelly, Davina McCall (22 March 1997)
    Apr 27 2026

What's that sound, listener? Yes, it's the sound of You Bet! on its arse, sadly, as we look at the 4th ever last episode. Hosted by Darren Day and with co-host Sarah Matravers (I know, us neither).

The good news is that the celebrities involved have not been struck down by the You Bet! curse, and on this episode are Ant, Dec and Davina McCall.

The challenges are pretty crazy though, and one of them is set in South Africa - where has that budget come from!?!

Other things discussed on the podcast include:

    • Stew does a 6/10 Zippy impression and 10/10 George from Rainbow impression
    • James takes us down a rabbit hole of the worlds strangest kidnapping story.
    • 'The English Patient' takes home the best joke of the episode.
    • Darren Day has way too much fun with the word 'Zippo'.

  • Episode 15: Matthew Kelly, Vinnie Jones, Wendy Richard, Ben Clarke, DJ Normski (17 September 1993)
    Apr 12 2026

We're taking our You Bet! Time Machine back to the summer of 1993, where the sun shining, and Matthew Kelly had four delightful celebrities to deal with!

It's episode 15 of You Bet Pod - with Matthew Kelly tasking the reigns and lauding over proceedings with footballer Vinnie Jones, actor Wendy Richard, rugby player Ben Clarke and legend DJ Normski!

The challenges are as mad as ever obviously - how about a man sminning backwards in a pool, balancing a two metre stick on his chin which has a candle attached to the top, where he is attempting to burst balloons?! Yeah, exactly! More of that please!

    Other things discussed this week:

    👈 Another Fred West reference

😜 Is the Mr Vain joke, the best joke of the podcast so far?

    🧑‍🎤 Stew does a rap

🤪 We discuss if The Crazy Gang were actually pretty awful human beings!

  • Episode 14: Matthew Kelly, Vicki Michelle, Nick Skelton, Brian Glover (16 February 1991)
    Mar 29 2026

We are back with another one, and it's a pretty special one too - it's Matthew Kelly's first ever episode! Join us as we take the You Bet! time machine back to 16 February 1991, as Matthew Kelly is joined by 'Allo Allo star Vicki Michelle, Olympic gold medallist Nick Skelton, and Barnsley's favourite actor, Brian Glover.

The challenges are as bonkers as ever, including two firemen trying to blow up and pop a balloon through 300 metres of fire hose, a child off his shark knowledge and a guy on a motorbike trying to knock off coconuts on traffic cones!

    Other things discussed this week:

🎤 Stew does an excellent Homer Simpson impression

🎵 Say what you like about the show, but the Jim'll Fix It theme song was a banger

🍺 Andre the Giant liked a beer

🥐 'Allo Allo was great, wasn't it!
