About this listen

What is Writeopolis? Writeopolis is a fortnightly (or, for US listeners, twice a month) conversation between writing professionals (and Kit Power). The conversation happens live every other Sunday evening via Discord, with live text chat accompanying the voice discussion (no video; RJ and Kit don't have that kind of time to sort their hair out every weekend). The resultant conversation is later released in podcast form via this feed. Who is Writeopolis? Writeopolis is BFS Award winner RJ Barker, author and playwright Scott K Andrews, and BFA finalist author, blogger, podcaster and procrastinator (and the one who does all the work) Kit Power, in conversation every fortnight with professionals from across the writing industry. The aim is to recreate the conversational vibe of chatting at the bar of a really good con with the guest of honour. Without the stale chips and having to yell to be heard. Though if you want stale chips, that's fine, we guess. But they are not provided. When and where is Writeopolis? Every other Sunday - 8:30pm to 9:30(ish)pm on Discord - https://discord.gg/SxBWXrbnWp , with recordings appearing here the following Friday for Patreon backers - https://www.patreon.com/writeopolispodcast , and FREE the Friday afterwards for all. We're incredibly grateful for your financial support, but we will never charge for access to the Writeopolis live show or podcast. Why is Writeopolis? Because writing is a lonely profession, and cons didn't come around often enough even before Covid. Because the best bit of any con is the chat you have at the bar on the Sunday evening. Because we're passionate about every single aspect of writing, and we love to talk about it with fellow misfits.2021 Art Literary History & Criticism

  • Writeopolis S10 E5 - Dungeons and Disorderly with David Thomas Moore
    Feb 3 2026

Series 10 concluded with a glorious crossover episode with David Thomas Moore running a game of Dungeons and Disorderly for our three hosts!

There is quite simply no way to summarise this episode in any way that will make sense, so without further ado:

    • Paddington Bear Stare

    • We must save the Writeoponomicon!

    • STET!

    • Tiny glove with a white whale on it

    • Regret

    • "We are writers answering the call to adventure!"

    • Keeper Sutherland - not to be confused with Kiefer Sutherland (who also makes an appearance)

    • "We're like a family here."

    • Bertie the wizard cat

    • A Pope-firing trebuchet

    • An unsettling encounter with a goat

Listen in for all this and more! So much more... You would not believe how much more we managed to cram into this episode. No, none of it makes sense. None. Enjoy!

  • Writeopolis S10 E4 - M R Carey
    Jan 27 2026

Season 10 continues with the magnificent M R Carey, in which:

    • Mike understands the assignment when it comes to 'keeping the recent media we've consumed segment to a minimum'. The hosts, once again, fail spectacularly.

    • Kit is reading poetry and may have been taken over by an alien parasite

    • Mike gives an insight into his latest book Once Was Willem

    • RJ completely forgets the format of the show after being off for a week

    • Scott invents a new soap opera in his dreams

    • Book signing horror stories make an appearance

    • The kaiju question makes an appearance

    • Mike confirms Yorkshire is awesome

  • Writeopolis S10 E3 - Andrea Stewart
    Jan 20 2026

The guests returned for episode 3 with Andrea Stewart!

Which of course meant one of the hosts was missing.

    Also in this episode:

    • The chat seriously overestimate RJ's tech skills

    • Scott reads a book! Not during the episode, obviously. It's not that kind of podcast.

    • Andrea introduces the hosts to One Piece

    • Scott starts an argument with the words "The ending was even worse than Lost"

    • The Writeoponomicon is pleased as Andrea teases a new secret project, discusses craft and shares an amazing source for fantasy travel research

    • Some good urtexts make an appearance

    • Kit laments failing to get Black Sabbath tickets

    • And, inevitably, Mephi!

Listen in for all this and even more!
