About this listen

I live in Alaska and will talk about anything and everything from sports to music to whatever, except religion and politics. I will absolutely not have a discussion about those two subjects. This podcast is for the traveler who has never been to Alaska or still has questions or inquiries about this wonderful state. This page will constantly be under construction.

  • Christmas In The Greatland
    Dec 21 2025

In this, shorter than normal episode Christmas In The Great Land, we journey into the heart of an Alaskan winter to discover how residents turn the "Big Dark" into a season of warmth and light. We explore the deep-rooted tradition of Selaviq (Starring) in Russian Orthodox communities, where a spinning star leads carolers through the snow.

We also take a trip to North Pole, Alaska, to see where the holiday spirit lives year-round, and sit down for a virtual "subsistence feast" featuring moose roast and Akutaq. From the giant star shining on the Chugach Mountains to the crackle of solstice bonfires, this episode celebrates the resilience, community, and unique cultural tapestry that makes a Christmas in Alaska unlike anywhere else on Earth.

I also touch on a special ceremony that makes me part of a special group, with some amazing people as well as another story about a true Alaska Hockey Legend.

  • The Al-Can Highway
    Nov 24 2025
    The Alcan Highway:

The Alaska-Canada Highway, universally known as the Alcan, is an epic, 2,200-kilometer roadway stretching through British Columbia and the Yukon into Alaska. It stands as one of the great engineering feats of the 20th century, born entirely from wartime panic and necessity.

We will talk everything from it's origin to it's construction, including the builders and it's major obstacles, to it's legacy, tourism and even travel warnings.

So buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy, 1387 mile ride
