Does art hurt or heal? Art is a realm for dealing with the past - through truth-seeking, memorialization and even fact-finding. The roundtable discusses art as a site for resistance as well as a path towards reconciliation after war and state violence, including the Swedish state violence against Sapmí people. The legacies of colonial violence haunt the present. This roundtable discusses the active imprint of colonialism on present-day peacebuilding. I september dog den 22-åriga Mahsa Jîna Amini kort efter att ha arresterats av sedlighetspolisen i Teheran, anklagad för att ha burit sin slöja på ett ”felaktigt” sätt. Hennes död blev startskottet på landsomfattande demonstrationer för mänskliga rättigheter under parollen ”Kvinna, liv, frihet”.

Demonstrationerna, och den iranska statens repression av dem, med hundratals döda och tusentals arresterade, berör många. Hur ska vi förstå vad som har lett fram till detta uppror som nu hållit på i över två månader? Vad händer i det iranska samhället? Vad kan vi säga om hur utbredda protesterna är och vilka som deltar? Vad spelar den iranska diasporan för roll i den politiska dynamiken? Vilka scenarier för händelseutvecklingen det närmaste året kan vi identifiera?

Om seminariets genomförande:

Tisdagen den 6 december genomförde Utrikespolitiska institutet i samarbete med Världskulturmuseerna ett evenemang med rubriken Bakom rubriken: demonstrationerna i Iran – vad händer nu? på Medelhavsmuseet.

Inför evenemanget mottog Utrikespolitiska institutet mängder av meddelanden och flera samtal med synpunkter på UI-forskaren Rouzbeh Parsis medverkan, ytterst i syfte att få honom och hela samtalet inställt.

I närheten pågick samtidigt en tillståndsgiven demonstration mot evenemanget. Ett antal deltagare från denna demonstration försökte utan tillstånd ta sig in i evenemangslokalen. Med anledning av detta har polisen inlett en brottsutredning med preliminär brottsrubricering våldsamt upplopp och olaga intrång.

Trots den försening detta orsakade genomförde UI ett samtal där panelisterna på ett nyanserat sätt diskuterade händelseutvecklingen i Iran. Vi beklagar att ordningsstörningen bidrog till att alla som anmält sig till seminariet inte kunde släppas in. Tyvärr fick vi avbryta evenemanget när det var dags för frågestund på grund av att ordningen stördes av ett antal personer i publiken.

Utrikespolitiska institutets grundläggande uppdrag är att bedriva oberoende forskning, analys och folkbildning och att erbjuda en plattform för fria, öppna och demokratiska samtal under värdiga former. Detta kommer vi aldrig att göra avkall på.
