Good morning. Washington. I'm Aaron Jolly. We picked up about two-tenths of an inch of rain overnight. Currently sitting at 38 degrees under gray skies. But the real story? The mountains are getting absolutely buried. Stevens Pass woke up under 8 inches of fresh snow. Another 6 to 8 inches falls today. That convergence zone along Highway 27 degrees is cranking out snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour this morning. Winter Storm Warning stays in effect until 5 A.M. Tuesday. Total accumulations through Tuesday morning: 15 to 27 inches. The rest of the Cascades see lighter amounts today, but this is just the warm-up act. A Winter Storm Watch kicks in Tuesday night through Friday morning. We're talking 2 to 4 feet of new snow. The National Weather Service is even mentioning possible blizzard conditions Wednesday into Wednesday night. Around Puget Sound, scattered showers continue through this morning. Snow levels hover around 500 feet early, then rise with daytime heating. Highs reach the mid 40s. South-southwest winds gust to 25 or 30 miles an hour this afternoon. Eastern Washington stays mostly sunny early, then a chance of snow develops after 2 P.M. Highs near 43 degrees in Spokane. Southwest winds gust to 25 miles an hour. South Sound sees rain and snow showers likely before 2 P.M., then thunderstorms possible between 27 degrees and 5 P.M. Highs around 45 degrees. Tonight, scattered showers continue. Another convergence zone may redevelop, bringing 7 to 9 inches of new snow to the northern Cascades. Lows drop to the upper 20s to mid 30s. Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. Tuesday stays cool with scattered showers. Wednesday brings heavy rain to the lowlands and heavy mountain snow. Strong winds develop Wednesday afternoon through Thursday — we're watching for gusts over 50 miles an hour in some areas. The wet pattern continues through the weekend. Spring equinox is just 11 days away, but winter's still got teeth. See you this afternoon.
